Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Ether collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email support@etherapp.ai.

Who we are

"Ether" refers to the operators of the Ether web application at etherapp.ai. Our contact address for all privacy matters is support@etherapp.ai.

Information we collect

Account information

  • Your email address and basic authentication metadata.
  • If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the identifiers those providers return (email, a unique user ID, and, if you grant it, your display name and avatar).
  • Any profile information you choose to add (display name, username, avatar).

Content you create

  • Your conversations with the AI and the messages in them.
  • Journal entries, reflections, posts, comments, and likes.
  • Anything you choose to share publicly (e.g. posts on your profile) is, of course, public.

Technical information

  • Session and auth cookies (essential to keep you logged in).
  • Standard server logs — IP address, user-agent, timestamps, request paths — for security, debugging, and rate-limiting.

How we use your information

  • To operate and provide Ether's features.
  • To generate answers to your questions with cited sources.
  • To display content you've chosen to share with other users.
  • To enforce rate limits and protect against abuse.
  • To respond to support requests.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not run advertising trackers.
  • We do not use your content to train third-party AI models.

Categories of third-party processors

Ether uses a small number of service providers to operate the product. We pick vendors whose contractual terms match the commitments we make to you.

  • Cloud hosting and database providers — store your account, content, and application data and serve the web application.
  • Authentication services — verify your sign-in (including optional Google and Apple sign-in).
  • AI processing providers — receive your question (and, when relevant, cited passages from our library) to generate an answer. Our provider's terms prohibit using inputs to train third-party models.

These providers act only on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality and security commitments. We may change providers as the product evolves.

Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account — by emailing support@etherapp.ai — we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for security, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes. Aggregated, anonymized logs may be retained longer.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your information (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict certain uses
  • Receive a portable copy of your data

To exercise any of these rights, email support@etherapp.ai. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

Children

Ether is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Users under 18 should have permission from a parent or guardian before using Ether.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Because our cookies are strictly necessary for the service to function, no consent banner is required under most jurisdictions.

Security

We encrypt data in transit, restrict access to your records to you (and, where required, to authorized staff), and do not expose privileged credentials to the browser. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect unauthorized access to your account, email us immediately.

International users

Ether is operated from the United States and our infrastructure providers may store or process data in the US. By using Ether you consent to the transfer of your information to the US.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we'll also notify you in the app.
